Vietnam attaches importance to developing its friendly and cooperative relations with the United Arab Emirates (UAE), and considers it an important and prioritised partner in the Gulf region.

Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung made the statement during his talks with the UAE Vice President and Prime Minister, Mohammed bin Rashid al Maktoum, in Dubai on Feb. 16.

“Vietnam applauds the UAE’s initiatives to expand cooperation in many fields for mutual benefits,” PM Dung said.

The two leaders discussed directions and concrete measures to further the friendship and multifaceted cooperation between Vietnam and the UAE in the years to come, as well as exchanged views on regional and international issues of mutual concern.

The two PMs agreed on orientations and specific measures guiding the expansion and enhancement of the two countries’ long-term and stable cooperation across a wide range of areas, particularly investment, finance, energy, trade, labour and agriculture, that fits their potential and conditions.

They highly valued the signing of a series of agreements during the visit, saying those agreements will help create a legal foundation to facilitate the boosting of bilateral cooperation.

The two PMs pledged to urge their relevant ministries and sectors to quickly hold negotiations and reach agreements regarding visa exemption for diplomatic and official passport holders, tourism and tertiary education and scientific research cooperation so as to further promote the two countries’ long-term and effective cooperation.

The UAE Prime Minister informed his guest that his government will send a deputy prime minister-led delegation to Vietnam to translate all agreements and commitments reached during this visit into actions.

Following the talks, they witnessed the signing of an agreement on investment promotion and protection, an agreement on double taxation avoidance, an agreement on the establishment of an inter-government committee, an accord on labour cooperation and a cooperation deal between the two foreign ministries.
