Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung will pay a visit to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) from February 15-18. This will be the first visit by a Vietnamese PM to the UAE.

The two countries established diplomatic relations in 1993.

The Vietnamese Foreign Ministry said the visit will be conducted at the invitation of the UAE Vice President and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Rashid al Maktoum.

The visit will take place in the context that bilateral cooperation is progressing strongly. In January 2008, Vietnam opened an embassy in Abu Dhabi, the UAE’s capital.

To promote friendship and cooperation between the two countries, the UAE opened its embassy in Hanoi last year.

During the Vietnamese PM’s visit to the UAE, the two sides will sign some cooperation agreements on investment and business. The two sides will also discuss measures to promote bilateral cooperation and cooperation at international forums.

The Vietnamese Ambassador to the UAE, Nguyen Quang Khai, said the UAE is the key market for Vietnamese businesses in the Middle East. More than 15,000 Vietnamese labourers are working in the UAE.
