Minister of Transport Ho Nghia Dung assigned four Deputy Ministers to complete 34 projects in the fields of road, maritime, and aviation transportation to submit to the Prime Minister this year.

A scheme to control exhaust discharged from vehicles in big cities will be submitted to the Prime Minister for approval this year.

Deputy Minister Tran Doan Tho will oversee the design of 16 projects, including some that will be submitted to the government in May and June 2009, such as comprehensive planning of Vietnam’s road transportation system to 2020 and the vision to 2030; the planning of the Cam Ranh International Airport; amended planning of the Phu Bai International Airport; and updated planning of the development of Vietnam’s railway transportation system to 2020.

Tho will also supervise the compilation of other projects that will be shown to the PM during the July to September 2009, and include the detailed planning of the coastal road system of Vietnam; amended planning of the Tan Son Nhat International Airport; the planning for the connection of transportation systems between Vietnam and Cambodia; and a scheme to control exhaust discharged from vehicles in big cities.

Deputy Minister Ngo Thinh Duc is in charge of three important projects, including the detailed planning of the North – South highway (to be submitted to the PM in June) and the plan to enhance personnel and equipment for transportation inspecting forces.

Twelve projects belong to the responsibility of Deputy Minister Le Manh Hung, including the compilation of decrees on the list of dangerous goods and transportation by road; the circulation of foreigners’ right-handed steering cars in Vietnam; and transport business by cars.

Deputy Minister Nguyen Hong Truong is responsible for designing two plans for submission to the PM in December: the draft regulations on the cooperating mechanism in aviation search and rescue activities in Vietnam’s territory.
