The quiz aims at raising people’s awareness about the important roles and strategic position of Viet Nam’s seas and islands in the cause of national building and defence.

It is being sponsored by the Party Central Committee’s Commission for Popularisation and Education.

“The competition will help increase patriotism among people, especially the young, and they will be aware of their responsibility to defend our nation’s sovereignty,” organising board chief and vice head of the commission Dao Duy Quat said.

Any Vietnamese or foreigner can take part in the competition which will begin tomorrow and last until the end of August. Competitors can take part in quizzes or send in written entries of no more than 1,200 words to the organising committee.

Each week, five quizzes will be available on website www.dangcongsan.vn.

First, second and third prizes, worth VND1.5 million, 1 million and 500,000, respectively, will be presented to the winners every week.

Competitors can also send their written works, focusing on the roles and potential of Viet Nam’s seas and islands, and people’s responsibility in defending the nation’s sovereignty, to the Communist Party of Viet Nam’s online newspaper at 381 Doi Can Street.

Three first prizes, seven second prizes and 10 third prizes will be given to the winners on September 2, the National Day.

“I hope the competition will also help develop our sea economy and by 2020 Viet Nam will become a strong nation with developed marine economy,” the Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Tran Chien Thang said.
