According to AFP, the Czech Republic Foreign Ministry on March 2 said that this country had resumed the granting of visas to Vietnamese citizens.

The Czech Republic decided to suspend granting visas to Vietnamese citizens in November 2008 because of accusations of violations related to visa application procedures. It was said that only people who paid US$2,700 instead of the official fee of $240 could get a visa.

Spokeswoman of the Czech Republic Foreign Ministry, Zuzana Opletalova, said the Czech Republic Embassy in Hanoi had put into use a new computer system to prevent violations.

According to Opletalova, competent agencies will re-evaluate this system after two months of operation and “if violations are discovered, this system will stop running immediately or will be replaced by a new one”.
