Deputy PM Nguyen Thien Nhan on March 6 received the newly-appointed Chief Representative Tsuno Motonori of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).

Through JICA, Japan has conducted quite a few projects in Vietnam, significantly contributing to the country’s economic development and cementing the long-term bilateral ties between Vietnam and Japan.

Deputy PM Nguyen Thien Nhan stated that JICA-endorsed projects on education have brought about initial results, helping to improve the training of ICT human resources, consolidating linkages between key universities and local communities in southern provinces.

As shipbuilding is an advantage of Japan, the host leader hoped that Japan will assist Vietnam in this industry.

Responding to the Deputy PM’s suggestions, the JICA Chief Representative vowed to do his best to support Vietnam’s economic development. Especially, the Japanese Grant Aid for Human Resource Development Scholarship (JDS) Program will offer more scholarships for Vietnamese students in the time to come.

After the former JICA was merged with the Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC), operations of the new JICA will run effectively, underscored Mr. Tsuno Motonori.

In addition, the guest pledged to back Vietnam in tackling climate change.
