For the first time, the government’s upcoming monthly meeting, scheduled for March 30 to April 1, will be held via videoconference, with the attendance of provincial-level leaders.

At the meeting, ministers, cabinet members and provincial leaders are expected to present their reports online.

Preparatory work is currently being completed by agencies to guarantee the meeting’s online security.

Computers and other devices have been installed at the government’s meeting hall and offices of the provincial People’s Committees.

According to Nguyen Cong Hoa, director of the Government Office’s Informatics Center, technical preparations are still underway.

A training workshop was launched Thursday for IT directors of different ministries on how to run the nation’s first-ever meeting.

On February 11, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung ordered that all nationwide meetings must be conducted via Internet tele/videoconferencing.

On March 6, the PM announced that from the government’s March meeting onwards, provincial leaders will join in talks on socio-economic issues.

Minister of the Government Office Nguyen Xuan Phuc Thursday told the VnExpress newswire that the launch of videoconferencing reflects PM Dung’s high commitment to e-government establishment in Vietnam.

In February 2007, PM Dung held an online chat with citizens nationwide, which was highly praised by national and world communities.
