Vietnamese and Cuban officials have reaffirmed their long-standing ties of solidarity and friendship during a four-day visit by a delegation of the Hanoi People’s Council to Havana.

The visit, which wrapped up last weekend, aimed to strengthen friendly and cooperative ties between the two capital cities.

During the visit, the delegation, headed by the Director of the city’s Department for Foreign Affairs, Ha Van Que, attended a working session with the Vice President of the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples (ICAP), Alicia Corredera.

Que briefed his host on the socioeconomic achievements recorded by Hanoi over recent years, as well as activities of the city’s chapter of the Vietnam-Cuba Friendship Association, which are aimed at developing the special fraternal and traditional relations between the two countries.

He thanked the Cuban people for their wholehearted support of Vietnam during its wars against invaders in the past as well as its current national construction and development process.

He also invited ICAP representatives to attend celebrations of the 1,000th anniversary of the founding of Hanoi next year.

Corredera said ICAP and the Cuba-Vietnam Friendship Association have spared no effort to step up bilateral relationship between the two countries, particularly educating younger generations about the tradition of solidarity and cooperation between Cuba and Vietnam.

The delegation also held working sessions with leaders of the Communist Party of Cuba’s Central Committee’s Commission for External Relations, the National Assembly and Havana authorities.
