Vice Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee Nguyen Thanh Tai said four district authorities, three departments and one state firm had not contributed their fair share to the metropolis’ war on corruption.

According to city inspectors, people’s committees in districts 12, Binh Tan, Tan Binh and Thu Duc as well as the departments of transport, culture, sports and tourism have failed in their efforts to detect and prevent corruption by themselves.

Inspectors said the Department of Natural Resource and Environment and the state-owned Saigon Agriculture Incorporation had also failed to keep corruption in check.

Inspectors said all corruption cases discovered at the aforementioned agencies was detected by state inspections and audits. No instances had been detected internally, according to state investigators.

Tai said the agencies had to improve inspections and work harder to better prevent corruption by focusing on high-risk fields such as project investment licensing and construction licensing.

They also had to better monitor the listing of officials’ incomes and property as regulated by the government, he said.
