The Ho Chi Minh City - Trung Luong highway project will be edited this year.

Vietnam Airlines, the Vietnam Coffee Corporation and the Bank for Foreign Trade of Vietnam will be among 29 major state corporations that will be audited this year, the government’s chief auditor said Tuesday.

At a meeting held in Hanoi to set the state auditing agency’s tasks for the year, Chief Auditor Vuong Dinh Hue city said that the management and usage of state capital and assets at the State Capital Investment Corporation (SCIC), the government’s investment arm, will also be audited.

The audit will assess the implementation of National Assembly resolutions as well as the measures taken by the government to combat inflation, stabilize the macro economy, and ensure social welfare and stable development, Hue said.

The use of state budget and assets by 37 cities and provinces, including Ho Chi Minh City, Hai Phong City, and the provinces of Binh Duong, Thanh Hoa and Ba Ria-Vung Tau will be audited this year, up from 35 in 2008, he said.

Twenty ministries and central agencies, which use large amounts from the stage budget, including the Ministry of Education and Training, the Ministry of Industry and Trade and the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, will also be audited.

The auditing of important infrastructure projects in transportation, irrigation, and power generation will be intensified this year, Hue said.

He said that in 2008, his office had unearthed many wrongdoings, helping the state budget retrieve VND13.56 trillion (US$774.86 million), including VND2.52 trillion ($144 million) in unpaid taxes.
