National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Phu Trong has made promises of support for Lam Dong province.

During his visit to the Central Highlands province on March 14, Mr Trong said he will seriously consider the province’s proposals within the capacity of a law-making body and urge responsible agencies to help the province fully tap its advantages, especially in the field of tourism.

The province’s proposals to the NA leaders included the government’s approval of its project to restore a railway from the French-styled mountain resort city of Da Lat to Cham Temple, open international air routes, and turn Da Lat into a first-tier city under the provincial government.

The chief legislator praised the province’s efforts in maintaining its economic growth at over 14 percent last year despite the national economic downturn. He also called for paying more attention to personal training and promotion of cadres from ethnic minority groups.

However, he urged the province to make suitable plans and long-term strategies for development in the coming period.

Mr Trong pointed out the need to take care of forest management and protection in order to sustain ecological protection while increasing forests’ socio-economic efficiency and improving living conditions for forest tenders.
