LookAtVietnam – Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has asked every minister, agency head and provincial People’s Committee chairman to raise their high sense of responsibility in addressing socio-economic matters.

Speaking at a monthly Cabinet meeting in Hanoi on March 3, Mr Dung ordered all ministries, sectors and local authorities to implement measures the Government has adopted to revamp the economy.

““Ministries, sectors and localities shall proactively supply information to the press, and the press shall take responsibility for providing the audiences with truthful, accurate and prompt information regarding Party guidelines and State policies, to help them gain a thorough understanding of these matters,” PM Dung said.

He proposed that all regular Cabinet meetings be held online to connect Cabinet ministers with People’s Committee chairmen around the country.

Commenting on the country’s socio-economic situation, Mr Dung said that the Government has effectively prevented a more serious economic downturn, solved production and business difficulties, maintained economic sustainability and ensured social welfare.

The Ministry of Planning and Investment reported that in the past two months industrial production fetched VND106.1 trillion (US$6.1 billion), a year-on-year increase of 2.5 percent. Exports raked in US$8 billion, a fall of 5.1 percent, while imports went down by 43.1 percent to US$7.73 billion.

The consumer price index in February rose by 1.17 percent over January and was 16.13 percent higher than the figure from a year ago.

Cabinet members evaluated reports on the inspection and settlement of the public’s petitions and complaints and the results of the ongoing fight against corruption and administrative reform. They also discussed drafts of a number of proposed laws and resolutions.
