President salutes people’s diplomacy

LookAtVietnam – President Nguyen Minh Triet has urged the use of person-to-person diplomacy to increase the international community’s understanding of Vietnam’s policy, to facilitate the Southeast Asian nation’s process of global integration.

The State leader made this call during a visit to the Vietnam Union of Friendship Associations (VUFA) on March 11, emphasising the agency’s key role in strengthening global unity through both national defence and national construction.

“The national unity and international support, especially from the world’s progressive forces, have proven to be a sharp weapon in helping the nation to record historic victories during prolonged resistance wars,” Triet said.

“We also should not forget the assistance of our friends from all over the world to further our national construction over the past 30 years,” he emphasised.

With all of these reasons, Vietnam has always treasured international unity and recognises the huge contributions of person-to-person diplomacy, as well as VUFA’s key role in the battle, said the national leader.

However, he pointed to the agency’s poor performance in some areas, referring to its low efficiency and restrictive formalities.

“In anywhere and any conditions, national unity and international support are vital weapons, so the VUFA should constantly sharpen their weapons in order to make them invincible,” he concluded.
