Russians grateful for aid after tragedy

LookAtVietnam – The Russian Ambassador to Viet Nam has thanked Vietnamese organ-isations and individuals for helping Russian tourists injured in a recent traffic accident, and also for their investigation efforts.

In a press release issued yesterday, Ambassador Vadim Serafimov expressed his sincere appreciation to law enforcement agencies, militia, local people of the central province of Binh Thuan’s Bac Binh District and staff of the Dai Ninh Hydro Power Plant, who were the first to come to the aid of the victims.

“Such self-sacrifice and close co-ordination helped to save more lives,” he wrote in the press release.

Medical support

“We feel great admiration and gratitude to the doctors and staff of the hospitals in Lam Dong, Binh Thuan provinces and those of HCM City’s Cho Ray Hospital for their professionally high-quality medical support as well as whole-hearted care towards the Russian victims,” said the press release.

The ambassador also expressed appreciation for the sympathy and care offered by the Vietnamese people and organisations who have sent condolences to the embassy over the death of nine victims and visited the injured.

Last Friday evening, nine Russian tourists and one Vietnamese guide were killed when their bus plunged off a cliff on Dai Ninh Pass on National Highway No 28 in Bac Binh District’s.

The bodies of nine Russian tourists killed in the bus accident were repatriated to Moscow on board an airplane of Vietnam Airlines yesterday.

The Vietnam Airlines’ aircraft No VN527 departed from HCM City’s Tan Son Nhat Airport at 2.25pm, heading to DME Airport in Moscow.

Bodies identified

According to doctor Phan Van Nghiem, head of the HCM City Health Department’s Medical Profession Division, the bodies were identified at Nguyen Tri Phuong and Franco-Viet Nam hospitals by the members of the Russian rescue team before they were transported to the Tan Son Nhat Airport on Wednesday.

Procedures for compensations to be paid to the victims’ families have been agreed between the insurance company Coris from the Ukraine and a local insurer.

The Russian rescue team that arrived in HCM City on Sunday praised Vietnamese doctors for quickly performing formalities for repatriation.

On March 15, the Minister for health, Nguyen Quoc Trieu, asked the HCM City Department of Health to conduct quarantine and repatriation procedures and ensure the preservation of the deceased.

The 14 Russian tourists injured in the accident flew back home aboard an II-76 aircraft on Monday afternoon.
