Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has approved the terms of a €1.6 million (US$2 million) loan from the Spanish government for a project to upgrade the facilities of Lam Dong II hospital in the Central Highlands.

Dung also gave a nod to an Australian Government AU$192,000 ($123,000) non-refundable aid grant to provide technical assistance to maintain the sustainability of a joint project to monitor ODA funding.

The “Vietnam Australian Monitoring and Evaluation Strengthening Project” (VAMESP II), which began as a pilot program in late 2004 and lasted until 2007, aimed to establish a national system for monitoring and evaluating to be used in official development assistance programs and projects in Vietnam.

Meanwhile, Deputy Prime Minister Pham Gia Khiem has approved an addition of $1.7 million for a project on biodiversity preservation in the Dong Nai River valley funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).

Khiem also agreed to extend the time frame for the project to the end of 2010.
