Vietnam to host first-ever Francophonie congress

LookAtVietnam – The French Embassy will organise a lot of socio-economic, cultural and education activities from March 20-31 to welcome a congress of the French speaking community (Francophonie) in Vietnam.

The congress, the first of its kind, will take place in Vietnam on the occasion of International Day of Francophonie (March 20), said the embassy at a press conference in Hanoi on March 6.

These activities will be undertaken by France, Switzerland, the Organisation Internationale de la Francophonie (OIF) in coordination with other Vietnamese partners, including the Ministry of Education and Training, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Science and Technology and relevant agencies in Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang and Hue city where these activities will take place.

During 10-day event, teachers of French, artisans from craft villages and businesses will take part in forums to discuss about issues relating to Vietnam’s development.

Duong Chi Dung, the representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Vietnamese special envoy to the OIF, appreciated the organisation of these activities.

He emphasized that as a member of the French speaking community, Vietnam has actively taken part in all activities of the community. He said the hosting of the congress is one of the main activities of Vietnam’s diplomatic sector in 2009.
