Grassroots chapters of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union should focus on training their staff in recruiting more young people to the cause, a party official said Wednesday.

Party Secretary Ha Thi Khiet, who chairs the Commission for Mass Mobilization, made the suggestion at a meeting held in Hanoi for the union’s 78th anniversary.

Khiet also suggested grassroots agencies of the Party, Government, Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee and social organizations should create the best conditions for the youth union and Vietnamese youth in general to develop their talent and intellect, and contribute to building and protecting the country.

The Party greatly values and has high hopes for Vietnam’s younger generation, and the role of the union, Khiet said, adding that, in the course of history, the Communist Youth Union has proved to be a “socialist school” for training young Vietnamese people for the Party.

Addressing the meeting, Vo Van Thuong, first secretary of the union’s central committee, said the union will renew and increase the quality of its movements in line with young people’s needs and interests.

All youth union chapters should effectively carry out movements launched by the union’s central committee on socio-economic development and national defense as well as job creation, the Voice of Vietnam’s website quotes Thuong as saying. He asked the chapters to raise the quality of their members and activities, with the focus on personnel training.

Toward the end of the meeting, the secretariat of the union’s central committee presented awards to 78 secretaries of grassroots chapters for their contributions to youth movements.
