Signing a cooperation document between the Vietnam National Assembly and the Czech House of Representatives.

The chairman of the Czech House of Representatives, Miroslav Vlcek, made the statement during talks with the chairman of the Vietnam National Assembly, Nguyen Phu Trong, in Prague on April 27.

He also suggested that the two countries cooperate in energy and energy security which are issues of top concern of the republic. He said that many Czech companies are keen to invest in Vietnam and their cooperation will enrich bilateral relations.

The republic highly values Vietnam’s role in Southeast Asia, said Mr Vlcek.

For his part, Mr Trong said that agreements signed between the two countries have been implemented effectively. He appreciated the republic’s valuable support and provision of the official development assistance to Vietnam and thanked the country for training human resources and creating favourable conditions for the Vietnamese community to live, study and work in the republic.

Vietnam always attaches great importance to developing cooperative ties with the Czech Republic and the European Union, said Mr Trong.

He also affirmed that the Vietnam National Assembly will do its utmost to strengthen the friendship and long-term cooperation in many fields with the EU country for mutual interests.

He thanked to the republic for supporting Vietnam in joining the World Trade Organisation and becoming a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council for the 2008-2009 term.
He expressed his hope that the Czech Republic, with its role of EU presidency, would help foster the relationship between Vietnam and the EU.

Vietnam is ready to cooperate with the republic in boosting ties with the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), said Mr Trong.

He suggested that the two parliaments work harder to help their governments speed up the implementation of signed economic and trade agreements and support accords in areas where the Czech Republic and Vietnam have high demand, including transport, energy and postal services. He ssaid that the two legislative bodies should increase exchanges, share their experiences in legislation and assist each other to improve the capacity of their deputies.

Following their talks, Mr Trong and Mr Vlcek signed an agreement to boost cooperation between the two legislative bodies. They agreed to increase the exchange of delegations, research teams, and parliamentary friendship groups.
