The Czech Republic is keen on strengthening multifaceted cooperation with Vietnam, President Vaclav Klaus told the visiting chairman of Vietnam’s National Assembly Nguyen Phu Trong in Prague Tuesday.

Klaus said in the face of the current economic crisis, the two countries should strengthen ties in trade and economy and expand cooperation based on the two countries’ potential.

Trong also confirmed that Vietnam has always attached importance to developing ties with the Czech Republic and the European Union.

He suggested that the Czech Republic continue to support Vietnam in establishing a comprehensive partnership with the EU and create conditions for Vietnamese products to be imported to the EU market.

Trong also called for further support for the Vietnamese communities in the republic so that they could make increased contributions to strengthening bilateral relations.

Earlier on the same day, Trong met with Vice-President of the Senate of the Parliament of the Czech Republic Jiri Liska.

The two sides discussed measures to boost diplomatic and cooperative relationships between Vietnam’s National Assembly and the Czech Parliament by annual exchange visits as well as exchanges of information between relevant agencies of the two parliaments.

After leaving the Czech Republic, Trong will visit Belarus, the last stop on his three-nation visit to Eastern Europe.
