Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Sinh Hung has lauded the role of the business community, especially young entrepreneurs, in some positive signs of economic recovery seen in the country.

Hung’s praise was expressed Monday in a meeting with members of the Young Vietnamese Entrepreneurs Association to discuss the fight against economic recession.

Participants at the meeting discussed four major topics: the policy of preferential interest rates, tax issues relating to the import of materials, domestic production and trade development, and the opening up of domestic retail markets to foreign investors.

They proposed many solutions for promoting export and suggested ways to have young entrepreneurs involved in infrastructure projects and the government’s main economic programs, including official development assistance (ODA)-funded projects.

Deputy PM Hung praised the business community for their contributions to the government’s success in reining in inflation.

He encouraged young entrepreneurs to cooperate further with the government in preventing economic recession.

He also hoped that enterprises can make use of the government’s stimulus package to ensure sustainable growth and development.

The deputy PM and his government delegation had also met Monday with leaders of Khanh Hoa Province.

The provincial leaders raised several issues including supplementing the state budget of 2009 for the urgent projects, studying the possibility of moving the Nha Trang military airport to a new location and addressing discrepancies in the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism’s beauty contest regulations. The province is set to host the Miss World contest next year.

The Deputy PM suggested that the province ensures that key projects of last year are completed as soon as possible.

The Ministry of Planning and Investment will chair a meeting in the next couple of weeks to discuss ways to handle the properties involved in the Rusalka land scam, he added.
