 | | VietNamNet Bridge - Vietnam places great importance to relations with traditionally friendly countries such as Belarus, said National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Phu Trong.
At his talks with Vladimir Andreichenko, Speaker of the House of Representatives (the Lower House) of the National Assembly of Belarus, in Minsk on Apr. 29, Chairman Trong confirmed that the Vietnamese NA will do their best to promote and develop the friendship and multifaceted cooperation between the two countries.
Trong suggested that the two national assemblies supervise both governments and the relevant ministries when implementing bilateral cooperation agreements. The two sides will continue to work together closely and consultant each other when attending international forums, he added.
Speaker V. Andreichenko emphasised the important role of parliamentary cooperation in boosting the two countries’ relationship. He said that he hoped the Vietnamese National Assembly would soon set up a Vietnam-Belarus parliamentarians’ group.
He stressed on the need to effectively implement cooperation agreements signed between the two countries, while bringing into play both sides’ potential for developing cooperation. He also assessed that the two countries growing economic cooperation would help to weather the present financial crisis and economic recession.
Speaker Andreichenko said he hoped that through Vietnam, Belorussian products can reach Asia-Pacific countries. Meanwhile, Belarus will help Vietnam to export its products to the European market.
Later the same day, at his talks with the Speaker of the Council of the Republic (the Upper House) of Belarus, Boris Batura, Chairman Trong said his visit aims to boost the traditional friendship and multifaceted cooperation between the two countries and the two national assemblies, developing the time-honoured relationship between Vietnam and Belarus in a deep and effective manner.
Speaker Batura spoke highly of Vietnam’s role and position in the world, stressing that Vietnam is Belarus’ strategic partner in the Asia-Pacific region.
Emphasising positive developments in the two countries’ economic cooperation, the Speaker expressed his pleasure at the expansion of bilateral cooperation in the areas of science, technology and education.
He praised the role of the contingent of the Vietnamese cadres who had studied and worked in the former Soviet Union and Belarus, expressing his belief that they will contribute to strengthening and developing cooperative ties between the two countries.
Speaker Batura agreed with Chairman Trong’s view on further promoting economic, commercial, investment cooperation and exchange of experiences in legislative work between the two parliaments. The two leaders also discussed concrete measures to promote cooperation in this field.
The same day, Chairman Trong, Speaker of the Lower House Andreichenko and Speaker of the Upper House Batur signed a cooperation agreement between the two National Assemblies.
The two sides pledged to promote cooperation between the two parliaments, contributing to the development of the two countries’ relations in politics, economy, trade, investment, science, technology, environmental protection, education, culture, social affairs, tourism and other areas of common concern.
The two sides will promote cooperation among localities and businesses and build a legal basis for bilateral cooperation and accelerate the process to ratify and fully implement treaties and agreements that the two countries have already signed.
At a later press conference, Chairman Trong, Speaker Andreichenko and Speaker Batura highlighted the significance of the cooperation agreement signed between the Vietnamese National Assembly and Belarus’s Lower House and Upper House.
The two sides also actively considered the signing of three important agreements to promote cooperation between the localities of the two countries, the two central banks and work together in agricultural to enhance economic, commercial and investment relations.VietNamNet/VNA |
