Vietnam’s Foreign Ministry spokesman Le Dung has voiced support for endeavours to ensure peace, stability and denuclearisation on the Korean Peninsula.

“Vietnam advocates efforts to achieve peace, stability and denuclearisation on the Korean Peninsula,” Dung said while stressing the country’s stance on the recent situation in Northeastern Asia.

“Vietnam shares other nations’ common view that the six-party talks on the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea’s nuclear issue is an important and appropriate mechanism for the concerned parties to deal with disagreements through dialogues and peaceful negotiations.”

Dung emphasised that Vietnam’s consistent policy is to support the non-proliferation of nuclear and other mass destruction weapons, toward the absolute disarmament of these weapons, as well as the rights of countries to use science and technology for peaceful purpose.

In this spirit, Vietnam has closely watched and felt concerned for recent events and developments in Northeastern Asia, which are likely to increase tensions in the region and unfavourably impact on the six-party talks, he said.

“We call upon the concerned parties to restrain themselves and avoid exacerbating the situation,” the spokesman said.
