The Czech Republic is keen to work with Vietnam in transportation, the environment, cooking processing, sewage and the treatment of industrial waste, says Miroslav Vlcek, Chairman of the Czech House of Representatives.

He made the statement during talks held with Nguyen Phu Trong, Chairman of Vietnam’s National Assembly, who arrived in Prague on an official visit Monday.

The Czech leader suggested that energy security is an area where the two countries could cooperate and one that his country has prioritized.

He said that many Czech companies are interested in investing in Vietnam and regions in both countries are working hard to link up and contribute to developing bilateral ties.

Trong said he hoped the two countries would continue to work together in international forums and exchange opinions on regional and international issues of mutual concern.

He also hoped that the Czech Republic, which currently holds the rotating EU presidency, would help Vietnam strengthen its ties with the EU adding that Vietnam would help the Czech Republic enhance its relationship with the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).

The Vietnamese leader said that the parliaments of both countries need to work harder to speed up the implementation of signed economic and trade agreements and support accords in important areas including transport, energy and postal services.

The two legislatures should increase exchanges, share their experiences in drawing up legislation and assist each other in improving the professionalism of their politicians, he added.

Following their talks, Trong and Vlcek signed an agreement where both parliaments pledged to increase the exchange of high-level visits as well as trips by junior committees and parliamentary friendship groups.

They also promised to exchange information and viewpoints on international issues of mutual concern and enhance coordination at international inter-parliamentary conferences and forums.

Answering a query regarding the granting of visas to foreign workers, including Vietnamese people, Vlcek said that relevant Czech agencies are working hard to deal with the issue promptly.
