The leaders of the Vietnamese and Lao communist parties agreed to strengthen bilateral cooperation in all spheres including politics, economics, culture and security during talks in Hanoi Thursday.

They should work together to compile a history of their special relationship, step up cooperation in education and build a border of peace, friendship, cooperation and development in the future, General Secretary Nong Duc Manh and his visiting counterpart and President Choumaly Sayasone said.

They also agreed to draw up the Vietnam-Laos cooperation strategy for the 2011-2020 period as well as cooperate further at regional and international forums.

Manh said Vietnam is willing to share its experience to help Laos successfully organize the upcoming 25th SEA Games.

He agreed to visit Laos at the invitation of Sayasone.

After the talks, the two leaders witnessed the signing of agreements between the two countries, including one to facilitate the movements of vehicles across their border and exploit salt mines in Laos’ Savanakhet Province, and memorandums of understanding for cooperation in civil aviation, cooking safety and hygiene and plant and animal quarantine.

Later that day, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung received the Lao President.

They expressed happiness that Vietnam was Laos’ biggest investor last year.

They agreed that the two sides should create favorable conditions for official agencies and businesses to boost cooperation.
