Workers from the 61 poorest districts will receive governmental support and training for overseas jobs until 2020 thanks to a VND4.7 trillion (US$264 million) government project.

The project, which aims to help the country’s poorest districts reduce poverty in a sustainable fashion over the next decade, is a part of the central government’s plan to prevent economic decline and ensure social security.

The funds will help provide workers with comprehensive educational courses, vocational training, foreign languages, and preferential loans.

The project will also provide preferential loans to improve the facilities and courses of the centers that provide vocational courses for those who want to work abroad.

About 10,000 workers from the poorest districts will be sent abroad during the 2009-2010 period to help 8,000 households, or 2.8 percent of the number of poor households in the 61 districts, escape from poverty.

This number will jump to more than 70,000 for the 2016-2020 period with the intention to reduce the total number of poor households in the districts by 19 percent.
