VietNamNet Bridge - The President of the Central African Republic, Francois Bozize Yangouvonda, began a five-day official visit to Vietnam on May 18 at the invitation of State President Nguyen Minh Triet.

This is the first State-level visit to Vietnam by a president of the Central African Republic.

During the visit, the two leaders will discuss ways to increase bilateral cooperation in agriculture, health care, education, mining, trade and infrastructure construction.

Vietnam and the Central African Republic signed a joint statement on the establishment of diplomatic ties on November 10, 2008 during a Vietnam visit by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Regional Integration and Francophone.

Two-way trade remains modest, reaching US$14.5 million last year. Of the total, Vietnam exported US$910,000 worth of garments, seacooking and rubber to the Central African Republic, and mainly imported FO oil, steel, animal feed and clinker.
