Int’l donors assess Vietnam’s growth prospects

The mid-term unofficial meeting of the group of international donors to Vietnam will take place on June 8-9 in Buon Ma Thuot, the Central Highlands province of Dak Lak, announced the World Bank in Vietnam.

The meeting will focus on the following topics: evaluating the macro-economic development situation, new developments, and growth prospects for 2009; social influences from economic meltdown and the government’s policies; the effect of aid and the progress of the process to harmonise formalities.

Attendants will also listen to a report of the Vietnam Enterprise Forum, discuss public management and corruption prevention, particularly the implementation of the strategy to combat corruption to 2010.

The meeting will also have a session on climate change and how to cope with it.

The Vietnam Business Forum, which is attached to the CG meeting for Vietnamese and foreign enterprises, will be organised by the International Finance Corporation (IFC) and the Ministry of Planning and Investment on June 1 in HCM City.

The forum will discuss the business environment, a survey on hindrances caused by administrative formalities for businesses and investors. The forum will also cover a dialogue between businesses and the government about the capital and banking market, production and distribution and tourism.

The Vietnamese government delegation at the CG meeting will be led by Deputy PM, Minister of Foreign Affairs Pham Gia Khiem, with senior representatives of many ministries and sector.

The co-chairmen of the CG is Minister of Planning and Investment Vo Hong Phuc and the Country Director of WB Vietnam Victoria Kwakwa.

The CG includes Vietnamese government officials and representatives of bilateral and multilateral donors of funds to Vietnam. At the CG Meeting 2008, donors committed to provide more than $5 billion to Vietnam’s poverty reduction and development programme.
