Leaders pay floral tribute to President Ho Chi Minh

A delegation of the communist party and government leaders, led by Party chief Nong Duc Manh, laid a wreath at the President Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum in Hanoi Sunday to mark the late president’s 119th birthday on May 19.

The delegation included former Party General Secretary Do Muoi, President Nguyen Minh Triet, former President Tran Duc Luong, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung, National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Phu Trong and former NA Chairman Nguyen Van An.

Delegations of the Ministry of Defense, the Ministry of Public Security and mass organizations in Hanoi also laid a wreath at the mausoleum.

President Ho was born on May 19, 1890 in Kim Lien Village in the central province of Nghe An.

The Nghe An Communist Party Unit held a ceremony Sunday to mark the late president’s birthday and the 40th year of implementing Ho’s recommendations written in his last letter to the then provincial Party Unit.

In the July 21, 1969 letter, Ho Chi Minh asked for a focus on economic development and the implementation of democracy and care for residents.

Over the past 40 years, Nghe An has developed economically from being agriculturally based to having a service sector accounting for 37 percent and industrial sector 32.52 percent of the province’s GDP. More than 97 percent of households have electricity, 79 percent have clean water and 80 percent of commune healthcare centers have doctors.

At the ceremony, Politburo member and Standing Member of the Secretariat of the Communist Party of Vietnam’s Central Committee, Truong Tan Sang, praised the Party and people of Nghe An for their achievements.
