Vietnam’s communist party chief, president and other government officials on Monday met with the people from various cities and provinces to discuss grievances in preparation for the upcoming house session.

The representatives suggested more investment be made in constructing a network of roads and canals in rural areas, and encouraged several measures to support farmers, such as subsidizing electricity prices, providing them with long-term low- interest rate loans for agricultural development and establishing a stable market for farm produce.

Manh said Thai Nguyen should immediately review its economic structure and make necessary adjustments as well as solve agricultural problems in compliance with the country’s industrialization and modernization. He stressed that farmers play a key role in agricultural and rural development.

In HCMC, President Nguyen Minh Triet met with people’s representatives in districts 1 and 2.

Representatives addressed compensation in site clearances for government projects, a contentious issue of late. They said residents are not happy with their compensation which is often far below the market value of the property, making it extremely difficult to find a new place of residence.

NA Chairman Nguyen Phu Trong and Hanoi’s NA members, meanwhile, met with people’s representatives in Ba Dinh and Cau Giay districts in Hanoi.

The representatives applauded the NA’s efforts in arranging direct interviews with representatives.

Many representatives said there are still problems involving management, maintenance and fee collection at high-rise apartment buildings. They also said the delayed resettlement process and insufficient infrastructure at the areas of relocation have lowered the quality of life of affected residents.

The NA’s mid-year session will take place from May 20 till June 21.
