LookAtVietnam – Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung said ministries, sectors and localities from now to the end of the year must continue to strongly guide the implementation of urgent solutions to prevent economic slowdown, maintain the economic growth rate and assure social welfare.

The spillway at the Son La hydroelectric facility is under construction. The project is an important part of the nation’s progress towards industrialisation.

Members of the Government heard reports from the Ministry of Planning and Investment, the Ministry of Finance, the National Committee for Financial Supervision, and the Viet Nam Institute for Social Sciences.

The Government concluded that, thanks to leadership and timely guidance from the Politburo and the Government, combined with the efforts of ministries, sectors and localities, the country’s economic situation in April and also the first four months of the year saw progress in most aspects.

Industrial production value continually increased over the last three months. In April in particular the value rose by 5.4 per cent over the same period last year.

Agriculture, forestry and fisheries production continued to gain good results. Services made much progress and budget collection was good.

April’s Consumer Price Index (CPI) increased 0.35 per cent over the end of last year, which is a reasonable level, according to the Government’s conclusion.

Monetary and credit activities have recovered. Education and social aspects gained good results.

Dung affirmed that last month the country made active progress in all aspects including the economy, social welfare, national defence and security.

He highly valued efforts by the whole political system, from the Party committees, Government, organisations and enterprises, to the people.

He asked relevant ministries and sectors to disburse the Government’s economic stimulus packages, and to implement social welfare policies including housing for the poor, students, and industrial zone workers, and to boost the fight against corruption.

With the country now in the face of potential natural calamities and epidemics, the PM asked the ministries, sectors and localities to focus on preventing and combating storm effects and floods, and possible epidemics, especially the A/H1N1 flu.

He asked the Ministry of Public Health and other ministries, sectors and localities to strictly monitor for flu prevention and to be ready to extinguish the epidemic if it does occur.
