| Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung visited senior General Vo Nguyen Giap at his home this morning, on the occasion of the 55th anniversary of the Dien Bien Phu victory.
Escorting the PM were Deputy PMs Nguyen Sinh Hung, Hoang Trung Hai, and the Chairman of the Government Office Nguyen Xuan Phuc.
In a small room full of flowers, General Vo Nguyen Giap shook hands with government officials and said: “I hope you pay attention to bauxite mining in the Central Highlands. This is a strategic site of the country, which is very important in defence and security, not only for Vietnam but Indochina.”
The general also expressed his concerns about the arrival of foreign workers in the Central Highlands.
PM Nguyen Tan Dung affirmed: “The government would like to know your opinion.”
On behalf of the government, PM Nguyen Tan Dung wished the general good health, sound mind and longevity to continue contributing valuable opinions to the Party and the state.
“The Dien Bien Phu victory will be forever associated with the name of General Vo Nguyen Giap. The Party and the state will forever remember the general’s great contributions to the nation,” the PM said.
The general said: “Each day of my life is for the country. I hope the Party and the government will forever remember the credit of revolutionary soldiers.”
He said he is still healthy and has a sound mind and he always keeps his eyes on the country’s situation.
Many delegations visited General Vo Nguyen Giap this morning. Among guests was Ms. Nam Nghia, who spent ten years in the forest and found 1,486 remains of martyrs. This is the third time she has visited General Vo Nguyen Giap.
This morning, VietNamNet’s representatives also paid a visit to the general’s home to wish him good health and continue to make meaningful contributions to the country. LN
