Party leader affirms close ties with Cambodia, Laos; Vietnam strengthens healthcare links with Germany; PM receives outgoing Thai ambassador

Mr Manh made the affirmation while receiving a high-ranking delegation from Laos headed by Saman Vinhaket, a politburo member of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party Central Committee, and another delegation from Cambodia led by Permanent Deputy Prime Minister Men Sam An, in Hanoi on May 18.

The two delegations are in Vietnam to attend celebrations of late President Ho Chi Minh’s 119th birthday and the 50th anniversary of the legendary Ho Chi Minh Trail.

Mr Manh thanked the Parties, States and people of Cambodia and Laos for their valuable assistance to Vietnam during the latter’s past struggle for national construction and defence. He said Vietnam is determined to build the Ho Chi Minh Trail into the road of friendship, solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between the three countries.

He applauded the achievements made by the Cambodian and Lao people in various fields, which he said will help encourage the Party, State and people of Vietnam during their Doi Moi (Renewal) process.

Mr Manh said he hopes that relevant ministries, agencies and localities of Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia will work closely to effectively implement bilateral agreements and treaties signed by their top leaders.

Both Saman Vinhakhet and Men Sam An affirmed that the Parties, States and people of Cambodia and Laos will do their best to strengthen their traditional friendship, solidarity and comprehensive cooperation with Vietnam.

Vietnam strengthens healthcare links with Germany

A delegation from the Health Ministry led by Minister Nguyen Quoc Trieu has just paid a five day visit to Germany.

In Frankfurt, the delegation visited the Paul-Ehrich Vaccine and Blood Transfusion Institute, the German Reconstruction Bank (KfW) and the German Technical Cooperation Department (GTZ). They also met with representatives from the Ministry of Cooperation and Development and the Health Ministry.

Later the Vietnamese delegation visited the Badenweiler tourist resort, Freiburg’s City Hall and its University Hospital, where the Federal Secretary of the Health Ministry Marion Caspers-Merk received the delegation.

The Vietnamese Government’s policies were applauded, as well as the vibrancy of its economy and people, which has helped Vietnam to retain a high economic growth rate during the current global financial crisis.

They also highly praised joint-projects with Vietnam, especially in healthcare, describing them as excellent examples of how to successfully work with a foreign country.

The Ministry of Cooperation and Development and the KfW pledged to speed up new joint initiatives with Vietnam.

PM receives outgoing Thai ambassador

Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung expressed his pleasure at the positive developments in Vietnam and Thailand’s mutual friendship and multi-faceted cooperation over the years while receiving the outgoing Thai ambassador, Kittiphong na Ranong in Hanoi on May 18.

PM Dung spoke highly of the ambassador’s contributions to
boosting political, diplomatic and economic ties between the two countries during his time working in Vietnam.

He also said that he hoped the Thai diplomat would continue to play a leading role in promoting links between Vietnam and Thailand in the future, no matter what position he takes up next.

For his part, ambassador Kittiphong na Ranong confirmed that he would continue to help to boost Vietnamese and Thai relations.
