Khiem told the delegation, led by commission vice chairman Michael Cromartie, that a review of the religious situation in Viet Nam should originate from a comprehensive and objective approach, based on the historic situation and the culture and traditions of Viet Nam.

He affirmed that Viet Nam was open and willing to hold dialogues and exchange information to increase mutual understanding.

The US delegation expressed thanks to the Government of Viet Nam for creating favourable conditions for the delegation to better understand the status of religious freedom in Viet Nam as well as exchanging ideas on issues of common concern.

The delegation also applauded Viet Nam for presenting its national report on human rights practices in Viet Nam at a session of the UN Human Rights Council’s Universal Periodic Review Working Group in Geneva last Friday.
