Vietnam will host a conference of the Association of National Police Forces of the ASEAN region (ASEANAPOL) and hold its presidency this year.

Themed “Building ASEAN countries’ Police Forces for a stable and developed ASEAN,” the conference, held in Hanoi from May 13-15, is expected to draw the participation of more than 300 representatives from 10 ASEAN countries, five associate members and Interpol.

It aims to discuss cooperation in fighting crime, drug and human trafficking, terrorism, and weapon smuggling, as well as financial, banking and hi-tech criminals.

The conference will also discuss the establishment of a secretarial board for ASEANAPOL and judicial support among member countries.

Formed in 1980, ASEANAPOL representatives meet and discuss topics annually on prevention, enforcement and the operational aspects of cooperation against transnational crime.
