EU becomes Vietnamâs leading donor

The European Unionâs new grant of â¬716 million (US$1 billion) in aid to Vietnam for the 2009 financial year makes the grouping the largest provider of aid to Vietnam, according to Vietnam News Agency reports. | |||||||
| Of the grant, equivalent to some US$1 billion, France expects to give Vietnam 221 million euros ($314.7 million), the most funding by one country, followed by Germany with over 146 million euros ($207.8 million), Tuoi Tre newspaper, reported Wednesday. Vietnam uses international aid effectively, the paper quoted Czech Ambassador Michal Kral as saying. The Czech Republic is currently the EU president. Karl confirmed that EU aid to Vietnam will not decline even though a few European countries have decreased their official development assistant grants to Vietnam in line with the global recession. European Commission delegation to Vietnam head Sean Doyle said EU aid to Vietnam would continue to increase through 2013, despite the crisis. Source: VNA, Tuoi Tre | |||||||
