Vietnam wants to receive more Danish parliamentarians and entrepreneurs to strengthen the solid but modest partnerships the two countries enjoy, a high-ranking assemblyman told Denmark’s top socialist Tuesday.

National Assembly Vice Chairman Nguyen Duc Kien made the statement while receiving a delegation of Danish parliamentarians, led by the Chairman of the Socialist People’s Party, Villy Sovndal.

Kien applauded the Danish delegation’s visit, saying it would help promote exchange, mutual understanding and cooperation between the two countries and the two legislatures as well.

The lawmaker thanked the government and people of Denmark for the valuable support they have extended to Vietnam, noting that Denmark is currently the second largest European donor of official development assistance (ODA) to Vietnam.

He affirmed that Danish aid has been used effectively, contributing to the country’s socio-economic development and improving the living conditions of the local people.

Vietnam and Denmark are now cooperating in various fields, including legal and judicial reforms, protection of natural resources, and finance and banking, the vice chairman said.

Sovndal said he was delighted to visit Vietnam, which is in the process of development and has achieved a lot of important successes in economic development, hunger elimination and poverty reduction.

The Danish legislator, who is on a five-day working visit to the Southeast Asian country until June 27, acknowledged Vietnam’s desire to beef up bilateral cooperation in infrastructure development.

At the meeting, Kien and his guests also discussed a number of other issues of mutual concern.
