PM affirms the press’s role in national development

| LookAtVietnam – The press must serve as the reliable vanguard force for the Party, State and people on the political and ideological front, said Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung in his message delivered to media workers on Vietnam Revolutionary Press Day (June 21).
He acknowledged that since the Doi Moi (Renewal) process was initiated and carried out in 1986 by the Communist Party of Vietnam, the press has not only made an important contribution to the success of this process, but also grown and flourished to become a driving force behind the country’s rapid and sustainable development. During the integration process, the press has had a positive impact on the country’s comprehensive development, helping strengthen friendship and cooperation between Vietnam and other nations around the world. It has not only uncovered and encouraged exemplary role models but also actively engaged in combating corruption and waste and refuting hostile forces’ slanderous allegations so as to maintain socio-political stability, create a favourable environment for national development and increase the country’s position in the international arena. The press is an important information channel, helping the government improve its performance, said Mr Dung. He spoke highly of the press’s strong growth in recent times and said the integration process requires media workers to have a firm political stance to obtain, analyse and disseminate information while acquiring new knowledge and professional skills. They must work in the interests of the nation and people, help promote broader consensus in society and strengthen the bloc of great national unity, said the PM. The Party and State always create the best possible conditions for the press to fulfil their duties and stand firm in the integration process, said Mr Dung. VietNamNet/VOV |
