President Nguyen Minh Triet (R) presents gifts to underprivileged and outstanding children at his office in Hanoi Monday, to mark Children’s Day

President Nguyen Minh Triet met with 50 underprivileged and outstanding children at his office in Hanoi Monday on the occasion of Children’s Day and the Month of Action for Children 2009.

Triet told them that the Party, State, People, businesses and social organizations always exerted great effort to help children in general and the underprivileged in particular. He emphasized that working hard and studying well ensure a bright future for underprivileged children.

On the same day, more than 700 children with HIV or AIDS, and underprivileged children in Ho Chi Minh City attended a camping trip at the HCMC Children’s House.

The event, held by the Association of HIV/AIDS Control and HCMC AIDS Committee in coordination with other organizations, aimed to foster a concerted effort by society as a whole to have HIV infected children attend school with other children.

Also Monday, 100 outstanding pupils from Vietnam’s southern province of Tay Ninh and Cambodia’s bordering provinces of Kampong Cham, Svay Rieng and Pray Veaeng attended an annual camping outing in the province.

The three-day camp, organized by the provincial Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union, aims to create opportunities for children for both countries to meet and spend time together.
