It was the 110th handover of missing US servicemen’s remains since 1973.

In attendance were the crew of the UNNS Bruce Heezen Oceanographic Survey Ship who took part for the first time in underwater operations off the coast of Viet Nam during joint field activities held since May.

Also at the ceremony were representatives from the Viet Nam Office for Seeking Missing Personnel (VNOSMP) and the US Charge d’Affairs to Viet Nam, Virginia Palmer, Joint Prisoner-of-War/ Missing in Action Accounting Command (JPAC).

Vietnamese and US forensic specialists believe the remains are from US servicemen missing during the war in Viet Nam. They will undergo further examination in Hawaii.

The US Government Representative expressed deep gratitude and high appreciation for the consistent humanitarian attitude of the Vietnamese Government and people.

In particular, he mentioned the participation of the UNNS Bruce Heezen in searching several underwater sites off the coast of Viet Nam.
