Vietnam supports the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula and all efforts toward peace and stability in the region, said Vietnam’s foreign ministry spokesman Le Dzung.

Answering questions concerning the UN Security Council’s resolution 1874 Saturday, Dzung said Vietnam’s consistent policy was to support a comprehensive ban on nuclear tests in the name of the non-proliferation and complete elimination of nuclear weapons.

“In this spirit, we share concerns about the nuclear test by the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea and view that measures in the new UNSC resolution aim to prevent nuclear proliferation and ballistic missile development in accordance with the UNSC resolution 1718,” Dzung said.

The implementation of this resolution must avoid adversely affecting the normal life of the population, humanitarian aid and development as well as all legitimate economic activities, he added.
