At least 383 million tons of cluster munitions were used in Southeast Asia during 1965- 1975, including about 97 million tons in Vietnam, the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) said.

An estimated 115 million tons of cluster bombs were dropped in heavily bombed areas, according to FAA statistics, which was disclosed at a seminar in Thua Thien-Hue city Province Friday.

The total amount of munitions used in Vietnam was nearly 29 million tons.

With an area of over 5,000 square kilometers, Thua Thien-Hue reportedly ranks bottom among Vietnam’s 20 provinces that are affected by bombs and mines that remain after the war.

The seminar, which assessed the need to remove cluster munitions and unexploded material in the province, was held in Hue Town by the Center for Social Research and Development and Norwegian People’s Aid in coordination with Irish Aid.
