A monument to the Hoang Sa fleet was installed at the Exhibition Hall in Ly Son Island District, the central province of Quang Ngai, announced the local Department of Culture, Sport and Tourism.

The 30-ton monument was made of granite to honor and commemorate the Hoang Sa Bac Hai (North Sea) fleet, which patrols the Hoang Sa (Paracel) and Truong Sa (Spratly) archipelagoes.

The province has set up a VND15.3 billion (US$860,000) project to restore Hoang Sa historical sites, including an exhibition house, rebuilding An Vinh communal house and a temple worshiping Pham Quang Anh, who was head of a Hoang Sa militia during the Nguyen Dynasty, and installing the Hoang Sa monument.

Most work will be finished by the middle of July and ready for the public on National Day (September 2).
