| A national conference aiming to review the five-year implementation of a Party resolution on religion opened in Hanoi Thursday. |
| The conference, hosted by the Secretariat of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee (CPVCC), was attended by Politburo members Truong Tan Sang and Truong Vinh Trong, and Head of the CPVCC Mass Mobilization Commission Ha Thi Khiet. Resolution No.25-NQ/TW, which was issued five years ago, is the first comprehensive resolution by the Party Central Committee on the issue of religion, Sang, who is also a standing member of the Secretariat of the CPVCC, told the conference. After five years, the resolution has created important changes in the political system and society as whole, in addition to enhancing the awareness of authorities and ministries at all levels on how to handle religious issues, he said. Basically, the religious situation is stable, he said, adding that activities carried out by religious organizations are generally in line with the law. The summary report presented by Ha Thi Khiet stressed that fellow-citizens following religions have made active contributions to the cause of building and defending the fatherland. The number of followers and dignitaries of religious organizations has increased, and religious activities are thriving, the report said. In particular, places of worship have been built or upgraded and churches at all levels have been strengthened, it said. In forthcoming time, the Partyâs viewpoint and the Stateâs policies and laws on religion will be further disseminated among the Party and the administrationâs officials, the Vietnam Fatherland Front, and peopleâs organizations at all levels, as well as among religious followers and dignitaries, the conference said.
