President Nguyen Minh Triet told Ben Tre officials Wednesday that the Mekong Delta province had been developing admirably, but he noted that difficulties still lay ahead.

Triet said that several major construction projects in the province, such as the Rach Mieu Bridge, had stood out as recent examples of large-scale achievements to boost socioeconomic development.

But he said development in Ben Tre had been slowed by the province’s remote location and the lingering effects of the wars.

The province needed a better investment environment and a more well-trained human resource pool to attract local and foreign investors, said the president.

He also said that several problems in Ben Tre’s justice system still needed to be fixed.

Judicial bodies needed to concentrate on improving and creating awareness of the province’s laws, he said.
