Vietnam and Laos planted their second official border marker yesterday.

Milestone No. 525 was planted at the Cha Lo-Na Phau joint International Border Gate, linking the central Vietnamese province of Quang Binh with Khammuon Province in Laos.

It is the first of 61 border markers planned along the 170 km-long Quang Binh border and the second along the Vietnam-Laos border as a whole.

The first border marker was planted between Vietnam’s Lao Bao District, Quang Tri Province, and Laos’ Savanakhet Province.

The 1.6-meter marble marker cost over VND2 billion (US$112,000) and is emblazoned with the national emblems of Vietnam and Laos.

At the inauguration ceremony, leaders from the two provinces said the event was evidence of the special solidarity, friendship and long-term cooperation between the two countries.

They pledged to join hands in maintaining the border along the two sister provinces as one of peace and friendship.
