Vietnam’s Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung said the trip to Vietnam by Ian Luder, Lord Mayor of London, will help boost cooperation between the two countries, especially in banking and financial services.

He told Luder during their meeting in Hanoi Thursday that he was pleased with the development of the two countries’ bilateral relations in fields ranging from trade to politics and education.

Lord Mayor Luder arrived in the Vietnamese capital city Wednesday for a week-long visit, accompanied by a delegation from leading UK banking and finance firms.

He said the UK firms visiting with him had indicated their keen interest in the Vietnamese market.

Briefing Dung on his working sessions with local agencies, Luder said they had exchanged experiences in mobilizing investment sources for infrastructure development.

Luder conveyed UK Prime Minister Gordon Brown’s confirmation of the UK government’s support for Vietnam in negotiating a Free Trade Agreement with the EU.

UK businessmen praised Vietnam’s economic development and expressed the wish that the Vietnamese government would provide more favorable conditions for them to conduct long-term business in the country.
