Piaggio Vietnam Ltd., the Italian Vespa maker’s first Vietnam project, and other Italian investment are important to the country, said President Nguyen Minh Triet Monday.

During a reception with Piaggio Vietnam CEO Costantino Sambuy in Hanoi, President Triet congratulated Piaggio Vietnam on producing its first products in the country, saying that the project reflects the interest that Italian investors have in the Vietnamese market as well as their contributions to the country’s development.

He reaffirmed Vietnam’s commitment to creating the best possible business environment for foreign investors, including those from Italy.

CEO Sambuy briefed the president on Piaggio’s Vietnam investment, saying that the company completed the first phase of its first project here.

Also present at the reception was Italian Ambassador to Vietnam Andrea Perugini, who said

Italian investors are still interested in Vietnam despite the global financial crisis and economic recession.

The two foreign ministries are currently organizing a visit to Italy by President Nguyen Minh Triet later this year, the diplomat said.

He said he believes the visit will underline the two countries’ increasingly close relationship and give Vietnam the chance to make Italians and Europeans more aware of the country.
