Other crimes that no longer carry the death penalty include producing, storing and circulating counterfeit money, checks and government bonds; hijacking of planes or ships; fraud; smuggling; and the destruction of military equipment, the government said in a statement late Thursday.

The move was aimed at making sentences more humane, the government said. Crimes that are still punishable by death include murder and the production of fake drugs.
