Vietnam wants to increase all-round cooperation with Indonesia, said National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Phu Trong during a meeting with the speaker of Indonesia’s House of Representatives Wednesday.

During the talks in Hanoi, Indonesian speaker Agung Laksono praised Vietnam’s socio-economic achievements, saying that Vietnam had weathered the global economic crisis well. He said he hoped that Vietnam would share its development experiences with Indonesia to help the latter meet its goal of securing a 6- percent GDP growth rate.

He said that both Indonesia and Vietnam should cooperate closely with other ASEAN members to successfully build a united ASEAN Community by 2015 as enshrined in the grouping’s Charter.

Trong proposed that the two countries sign memorandums of understanding on sea borders, joint sea patrols and on recognizing each other’s post-graduate certificates.

Meanwhile, Laksono proposed that the two legislative bodies and other agencies increase the exchange of visits.

President Nguyen Minh Triet and Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung received Laksono later the same day.

The Vietnamese leaders confirmed that the traditional friendship and cooperation with Indonesia was very important to Vietnam. They said Vietnam would encourage Indonesian businesses to invest in Vietnam and that it would send businesses to expand cooperation in Indonesia as well.
