Australian defence investigators announced in April they had found the wreckage of a bomber in Quang Nam Province

Australia will repatriate the remains of its last two servicemen listed as missing in action during the war in Vietnam on Sunday, ending a 39 year search, local newswire VietNamNet reported Thursday.

A repatriation ceremony will be held at Hanoi’s Noi Bai Airport on Sunday morning before the remains of the servicemen are flown back to Australia.

Flying Officer Michael Herbert and Pilot Officer Robert Carver, both 24, went missing on November 3, 1970 when their aircraft crashed in a thick jungle in the central province of Quang Nam.

Australian officials announced on July 30 they had found the remains. “The cooperation of the Vietnamese authorities has been exceptional and highly valued by the (search) team and the government of Australia,” Defense Personnel Minister Greg Combet said.

More than 500 Australians died in the war, which also cost at least 3 million Vietnamese and 58,000 American lives by the time it ended on April 30, 1975.
